A UK employment ruling states that it is sexual harassment to call a man “bald”. From that first sentence, you’re probably thinking about why or how did this become sexual harassment. Well, you are about to find out. This ruling was The Guardian’s decision, which was made up by three judges brought forth from a complaint made by Tony Finn; who sued West Yorkshire- based British Bung Company for unfair dismissal and sexual harassment because supervisor Jamie King had called him a “bald cunt”. In the tribunal statement, they had this to say “ In our judgment, there is a connection between the word ‘bald’ on the one hand and the protected characteristic of sex on the other hand.” this is, therefore, lead to this statement “We find it to be related inherently to sex.” take a minute to let that sink into your brain before we continue this article. Along with all of that, the judges also declared criticizing Finn for his hairlessness was “degrading”, “hostile”, and “humiliating”. According to The Telegraph, it also didn't help that the judges themselves have experienced hair loss. Mr.King admitted to having the intention to threaten and insult Finn. Which had the tribunal determine that by referring to Finn as a “bald cunt”, Mr. Kings’ conduct was unwanted and was a violation of his dignity. Also made the work environment an intimidating place for him. In addition to the sexual harassment ruling, the company was ordered to compensate Finn for being dismissed unfairly after being there for 24 years.
