Update on the Five College Baseball Teams Who Can Make It to Omaha

With us being a month out from the conference tournaments being played and two months out from the best eight playing on the banks of the mighty Missouri. I thought it would be a good time to look back at the five teams I thought could make it to Omaha back in January. Going team by team to see how they have fared so far this season. Note that some have done way better than others.

Texas Tech, for a team that I thought NIL would solve their problems, they sure have been just bleh so far this season. As of 4/12/2,6 the Red Raiders sit at 20-14 and 6-8 in conference play. Which is 10th in the Big 12. Can they turn it around in the next month? Sure, they could; however, currently, it looks like a short ride in May for the Masked Rider.
Indiana, much like Tech a team that went hard in the portal this offseason. However, it probably wasn't for the right reasons so far. Sitting at a record of 14-20 with a 6-11 record in the Big Ten, the Hoosiers aren’t exactly showing any doubters wrong at the moment. Could’ve been a massive whiff on my part. The Hoosier still could make it interesting in May, but unlikely, as the school is a football school now.
Nebraska, well, well, looks like I do know what I am talking about when it comes to college baseball. If the best team in the nation wasn’t in the same conference as them, the Huskers would be the talk of the Midwest. With a 27-8 record while being 12-2 in the Big 10. Big Red is looking like a big threat in the Big 10. Lincoln East is looking like a real thing come June, more and more every day.
Virginia Tech is probably the team I’m most disappointed in so far this year from my list in January. With a record of 16-18 and 7-11 in the ACC, the Hokies haven't been the team we have seen the past decade. They have struggled mightily so far this year. They have only won a series against Duke since February. Not a good look for John Szfec and Co.
East Carolina, they are nothing but consistent, that's for sure. The Bucos once again are showing to be a force in the American, sitting at 7-4 in the conference and 22-13-1 overall. The Pirates are still well within striking distance of first place in the American. They still have a bunch of big-time games that are must-win to keep the ship afloat this year. If any man is up to that task, it is Cliff Godwin. Expect to see ECU make it 8 straight years and 10 out of 11 years in the field of 64.
Shockingly, I did predict some really good teams in my honorable mentions.
Georgia who is number 4 in the country at 27-6
Texas A&M who is number 18 in the country at 25-6
Dallas Baptist is third in a surprisingly loaded CUSA with an 11-4 record and 21-15 overall.
UTSA who is second in the American at 8-4 and 25-11
No one else has been good enough to note.
