As of this typing and release of this article, Nike and the MLB have partnered to make alternate “City Connect” uniforms that will help show the clubs' history and connection with their respective cities and fans. So far, there have been 14 teams that have city connect uniforms with two more to be revealed this year and then another batch of teams to follow next year. In this article, I will be ranking and giving my opinion on the current 14 revealed uniforms of the teams and then share my thoughts on the other two when they release and will rerank my list when it is all said and done. NOTE: I will only be doing the BASEBALL ones because some cities have NBA teams unis that correlate and I don't care for those.
Colorado Rockies.
The Rockies uniforms are inspired by the green and white license plate that adorns most cars you see driving around from the state, and they are one of if not the cleanest looking uniforms that they have revealed as of late. It’s inspired by the natural beauty of the state of Colorado (which I have always wanted to go and explore what this state has to offer) with the logo being multicolored just like the souvenir stickers that most cars have on the back. There are latitude and longitude coordinates that are on the uniform and when typed in you get the location of Coors Field in downtown Denver which is pretty cool if you ask me.
Miami Marlins
This is where it was tough for me but my goodness is Miamis nice, going with the red pinstriped uniforms to pay homage to the Sugar Kings the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds from 1946-1960 in Cuba using the logos that the Kings used and this isn’t an exact carbon copy of those uniforms they deviate from the Heat from using the Miami Vice style of uniforms that they wear but hey I like the ones the Marlins have now (I would’ve been cool to see what Nike could’ve cooked up for them if that was the route they were going to take.)
San Diego Padres
FRESH OFF THE PRESS. THESE uniforms are straight FIRE EN FUEGO taking inspiration from the Mexican culture and vibrance of San Diego. The colors of the Mexican flag and the Baja California. Of course, SOME PEOPLE don’t like this jersey but hey THIS IS MY LIST AND I LIKE THESE JERSEYS. Also, Street Tacos had an inspiration as well? I don’t know I love these jerseys.
Houston Baseball Team
Now if you listen to Big Time Talkers (if not what is wrong with you? Go listen to it!) we are set in stone on cheaters in baseball and what this team did is nothing short of disgusting and downright disgusting and those involved should be penalized but a certain clown commissioner was fine with it but hey what am I talking about let us get back to talking about uniforms. Houston’s city connects uniforms take homage to NASA and the ’70s tequila sunrise nave uniforms. I’ve got nothing bad to say about these uniforms nice simple and clean plus I love NASA and the lettering they use for the uniforms.
Kansas City Royals
First off I would like to say one thing………….. THANK GOD THEY DIDN’T MESS THESE UP!!!!!!!! I was worried because of how good the HBT uniforms looked I and many others from Kansas City were worried about what this would look like, and they could be more perfect. Taking inspiration from the many fountains that are around the city the different old-school KC logos and the perfect balance of dark navy and light powder blue. As of this article released this is the most successful uniform release in Royals history I have the team polo that releases with the uniforms and my goodness does it fit nice and feel nice. Too bad the team is one giant heaping pile of trash and garbage but hey we have these dope-ass uniforms.
Chicago White Sox
Now to round out the top 5 we have the all-black “Southside” uniforms. Now the ChiSox have another dope alternate in the 1983 uniforms but these are very nice all-black uniforms that haven’t been done ever the Mets and Royals have had black uniforms but never an all-black. The gothic lettering of the front is a nice touch and takes notes from the Chicago American Giants and Hip-Hop culture? I don’t know about that one chief but hey great jerseys overall.
Los Angles Angles
Now I love Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani and I think they should be winning rings and not perpetually be stuck in the purgatory of Anaheim and never win a World Series ring. With these uniforms fresh off the press they are pretty nice. The inspiration from these uniforms is the local surf shops and surfing scene in Anaheim with a nice cream-colored white and red, basically a light version of the main home uniforms with different fonts for the front of the uniform it is simply clean and nice.
Arizona D-Backs
Now this one was one of the first to release back in the first wave and I know that this is at number 7 it’s a very nice but not bad uniform. So the D-Backs uniform takes notes and is a flip of their main colors taking hints from the Hispanic culture in Arizona and the Sonoran Desert and the word Serpentines with colors of Sedona red and the patch on the logo representing Arizona's state flag and the nickname of Phoenix “The Valley of the Sun”. Overall a nice uniforms
Boston Red Sox
Now here's an interesting one. These are yellow and blue and completely different from the traditional red, white, and navy uniform but I kinda like them they take inspiration from the famous Boston marathon and they look nice but not the best (this is why I’m ranking them) but I have to give Bean town some style points for being different
Milwaukee Brewers
Unlike I said with the angles one THESE are the freshest uniforms to be revealed and…… honestly, they kinda fired a dud. I get they were trying to get inspiration from the “blue skies and grilling culture and Lake Michigan” but they look bland it’s cool to see the Brew Crew name on the front but the use of the airport abbreviation MKE is just odd. But I like the colors tho but misses the mark
Chicago Cubs
Ohhh where to start with these last three. First, let us talk about the Cubbies' uniforms. All navies use the Wrigleyville name and look like the city flag. Overall it’s boring they also use a Y-style logo which symbolizes the north, south, and main branches of the Chicago river I like the inspiration but not the colors, and these were leaked VERY early and were received negatively and I agree with everyone this uniform is trash.
Washington Nationals
Look I’m going, to be honest, I do not like these uniforms at ALL. I guess that they take inspiration from the cherry blossoms that bloom around our nation's capital every spring and the grey is the architecture around D.C. which I mean, come on these look so bland compared to the others on this list do better Nationals.
San Francisco Giants
Hi! Welcome to Home Depot how can we help you today. Seriously I get they have the San Francisco bridge on the uniforms but they are ATROCIOUSLY BAD. They are not good they are not great they are all around bad. Speaking of bad.
Los Angles Dodgers
Look I like Fernando Valenzuela he was an amazing pitcher for the dodgers. But WHY DID THEY MAKE THIS A MAJOR INSPIRATIONAL POINT FOR THE JERSEYS. They are just an all-blue uniform….. that’s it all blue and good GOD that’s so bland and I’m glad that the internet collectively pooped on these uniforms. Plus they change the hats on their beverages they were originally all blue but now they have a black brim which makes them EVEN WORSE. Just garbage hot steamy smelly garbage uniforms.
AND THAT IS IT ALL 14 CITY CONNECT UNIFORMS. This was such a hassle to do and surely there will be more to review and rank so watch out for that but this has been the ranking of all the city connect uniforms.
