With college baseball right around the corner, we here at B-Card have a special spot in our hearts for America’s Pastime. This upcoming year will mark the 5th year that B-Card will be in Omaha for the College World Series. While everyone is trying to predict who will be in Omaha come June, with the heavy hitters of last year being named, I thought that five teams are not getting as much love to make it to Omaha. So here are the five teams who can make it to Omaha.
1 Texas Tech

Now, while on the surface it might seem strange to have a team that went 20- 33 last year be on this list, the part that most don’t know is that all that West Texas oil money is being spent on the baseball team, as the Red Raiders had one of the best transfer portals in the NCAA. While the Big 12 is as wide open as it has ever been, that doesn’t just mean that teams like Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, Arizona, and West Virginia can get back to the regionals. It also opens the door for teams like Oklahoma State, Arizona State, BYU, and Texas Tech. With the unpredictability of the Big 12, coupled with an amazing transfer portal, Texas Tech might just have what it takes to make it to Omaha for the first time since 2019. While it might seem unlikely, the Softball team was a long shot to make it to the CWS as well. So why not the Red Raiders? Tech opens the season as part of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, against Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas, February 13th-15th.
2 Indiana

Another team that had a very strong transfer portal. The Hoosiers are coming off a very good 32-24 campaign in 2025. They went 1-1 in the Big Ten tournament, which was not enough to advance out of the first round. They looked very impressive as the Hoosiers went 16- 14 in conference play in a stacked Big Ten. While the top of the Big Ten seems set with UCLA, Oregon, and USC. Indiana and one other team in the Big Ten are poised to ambush the top of the conference and make it to Omaha in June for the first time since 2013. That was the only time Indiana has made it to the College World Series. The Hoosiers open the season with a big test at number 13 North Carolina in Chapel Hill for a three-game series.
3 Nebraska

The Cornhuskers have been the defending Big Ten champions for the last two years, and after a good portal, seem ready to make Omaha Lincoln East. As the wise Tommy Hailey has said, there are only two things to do in Lincoln. Support the Huskers and go to Omaha. Nebraska is coming off a 33- 29 season, which saw them slay some giants like Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Oregon, and UCLA. The last two in the Big Ten Tournament in Omaha, so it would be no surprise if the Huskers are back in Omaha, but not just for the Big Ten Tournament, but the College World Series itself for the first time in 20 years. Nebraska starts the season as part of the MLB Desert Invitational with UConn, Northeastern, Grand Canyon, and Stanford.
4 Virginia Tech

Probably one of the most intriguing teams in the ACC, while being overshadowed by their in-state rival, which made waves for poaching a coach. The Hokies are looking to build off a season that spiraled out of control at the end. While they did go 31-25, they did so in spite of their 12-18 conference record. This can be mostly explained by how stacked the ACC was last year with Duke, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, North Carolina, and Miami. With these teams still being in the ACC, why is Tech on the list? By having a good Portal and retaining their coach. The Hokies are always a threat in the ACC with John Szfec at the helm. This feels like a year that the Hokies punch their ticket to Omaha for the first time in program history. Virginia Tech starts the year at home with three game series vs William and Mary.
Honorable Mentions
Creighton, UTSA, Texas A&M, Xavier, Murray State, Georgia, BYU, Utah, Kansas State, North Dakota State, UConn, and Dallas Baptist
5 Eastern Carolina

One of the most consistent teams in college baseball just can’t get over the hump. The Pirates have made it to seven super regionals since 2000 and have won none of them. They have been in the College Baseball tournament for 7 straight years and have only missed the tourney once since 2015. What Cliff Godwin has done in Greenville is nothing short of a master class in coaching and scouting. Yet the Pirates have never been to Omaha. This year might just be the last shot for the bucos. As the winds of change are blowing in the American Conference. UTSA has made its claim to be the best in the American Conference after last year and doesn’t look to be slowing down. Charlotte came out of nowhere last year, so did FAU and USF. The clock is ticking on ECU, but they have braved the worst before. ECU opens the season at home against a sneaky Xavier team.
