Know Your Enemy : The Memphis Tigers

From Memphis Tennessee

Mizzou leads the all-time series 3-1, winning the previous meeting 2018 65-33.

The Head Coach is Ryan Sliverfield, in his 4th full season at Memphis. He is 24-16. He has never had a losing season for the Blue Tigers, as he is 2-1 in bowl games. His lone loss was his debut as a coach in the 2019 Cotton Bowl vs. Penn ST.

Beat Navy 28-24 last week with a last-second stop

A balanced attack for this Memphis team leans on the run more. X2 the amount of TDs on the ground this year compared to the air.

102 PASSES TO 115 RUSHES

A very turnover-prone team, they have turned the ball over seven times this year already.

Starting QB Seth Henigan 71 for 100 791 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs. He also has 22 CAR for 47 yards and 3 TDs

The RB room is led by Blake Watson, 40 CAR, 295 yards, and 4 TDs. Sutton Smith is the other RB with 22 CARs, 127 yards, and 2 TDs

A familiar WR awaits Mizzou as Tauskie Dove is 4th for rec yards with 124 and 1 TD. He also does not start for Memphis. No Memphis WR has more than 1 TD, and the leading route runner is Roc Taylor, who has 15 rec for 154 yards and 1 TD.

I love the D that Memphis has as they have three down linemen, three linebackers, 4 DBs, and a rotation between what they call a Buck or a weak side blitzer and a Star, which is a roving DB. 7 of the 12 starters, I said 12 bc of the Buck and Star are seniors.

They force a lot of fumbles; part of that is due to the teams they’ve played. This year, Bethune Cookman, ARK ST, and Navy combine 3-6.

They give up 167 rushing yards a game vs. 137 passing. Both numbers are way down bc of the Bethune Cookman game. Without that game, they gave up 224.5 rushing and 141.5 passing. They have yet to play a good passing team this year.

Mizzou needs to run the ball and then burn them deep.
